Help Provide Life-Changing Care to Those Experiencing Trauma

By attending Hearts & Heroes, you’re not just supporting an event - you’re saving lives, restoring dignity, and building a safer community. Together, we can turn moments of crisis into pathways of hope.

Victim Services of Waterloo Region is a 24/7, non‑profit, community-based organization that provides immediate, confidential support to individuals affected by crime or sudden tragedy. They offer crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals to community resources, helping stabilize victims and supporting police efforts to pursue justice.

Areas of Impact

Victim Quick Response Program
Demand has surged, and additional resources are vital to ensure victims of violent crime receive timely support, such as counselling, crime‑scene cleanup, and emergency assistance.

Gender-Based Violence Support
Enhanced services ensure victims receive immediate safety, compassionate care, and access to tools for long-term stability.

Life-Saving Technology
Project Lifesaver requires over 100 additional bracelets to protect at-risk individuals and assist first responders in emergencies.

The Voices of Survival

“I am a survivor of human trafficking and was referred to Victim Services by the police officers who helped me escape my trafficker. During one of the darkest times in my life, Victim Services helped me find support and resources. They helped me find a safe place to go until I could get into a shelter and made sure I had food and clothes. They sent me to a treatment centre where I was able to work on my addiction and heal from past trauma. They were there when I felt overwhelmed, scared, and alone, and helped me put the broken pieces of my life back together.”

- Human Trafficking Survivor

“My husband was the first Project Lifesaver client in Wellington. He went missing a month before the program started. He left the house around
11 p.m. and was not located until the next morning. It was November, and he had been out all night and, as a result, spent the day in the hospital due to dehydration. We signed him up for the program, and a week later, he went missing again. I called the police, and they located him 26 minutes after arriving at my house. We have no idea what the outcome could have been if he hadn’t been wearing the bracelet.”

- Wife of Project Lifesaver Program Recipient

“My son took his life two years ago. While we waited for the coroner to arrive, two Victim Services staff sat with us. That was the worst day of my life, but I remember Victim Services being there; their presence made me feel less alone.
In the weeks following, they helped me connect with a support group for bereaved parents. I can’t thank them enough for how they helped our family.”

- Individual Supported by Victim Services

“After I was assaulted, Victim Services helped me when I didn’t know what to do next. They explained things in a way I could understand and made me feel supported during a really hard time. They reminded me that what happened wasn’t my fault.”
